  1. Potatoes! Wow what a great vegetable for survival.
I wouldn’t survive longer than a few days. The depression would get to me.

    Loved this book!

    1. Hi Lacey,
      thanks for your comments.

I am glad to hear that you really enjoyed The Martian. I did as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s amazing that Mark could grow potatoes on Mars and that he had the skills to do so! He was so ingenious and determined to survive.

I think if we just look at a problem and try to fix it we wouldn’t think about dying and what that means. Focus on the task at hand like Mark Watney did, and then we would not be depressed.

It would be lonely on Mars though ๐Ÿ™

Thanks for stopping by at Arlene’s Book Club!

  2. 1. I think the personality traits that Mark has that helps him to survive is his self-confidence, determination in achieving his goals and trusting him self.

2.If I’m stranded in mars, I think I would be able to survive in the counting on determination and self trust.

    3. I don’t believe that love interest matters in this case to survive. Because I believe that we don’t own our life it’s God. He takes it in the way he wants it to be. With so many reason and story to tell that he left for us.

    1. 1. I think Mark’s will to live, his loyalty to his crew and his sense of humor and ingenuity kept him going.
I also think his acceptance of his possible fate helped him stay sane.

      2. I think I would survive okay for about one month. It would probably depend on my faith in destiny and stay sane for as long as I could. If there was no hope of survival I would just wait for the end to come as peacefully as I could.

      3. If there was a love interest involved I think his determination and intelligence would see him through to survival if possible. He accepted his situation without blame and would do anything he possibly could to return to his life on earth.
