A Man Called Ove by author Fredrik Backman

We will be reviewing A Man Called Ove along with our monthly book club discussion questions for September 30th, 2016.

Fredrik Backman is a Swedish blogger and novelist of the best selling book, A Man Called Ove. His debut novel became an international hit.

San Diego Union Tribune says, ” You will laugh, you will cry, as his heartbreaking story unfolds through the diverse cast of characters that enter his life, all uninvited. You will never look at the grumpy people who come into your life in quite the same way. A very memorable read.”

A Man Called Ove is about a grumpy old man and the story of what has led him to be like that.

I am looking forward to reading this book! Sounds like it’s a roller coaster of emotions.

  1. As a swede it gives me great joy to see you reading books by Swedish authors, I have read and loved both A man called Ove and The 100 year old who climbed out a window and disappeared. They are both happy and sad stories.

I don’t know if Backmans other books are out in English, they are good but not great like A man called Ove.

  2. I didn’t realise the author was also a blogger. After having loved one of his novels, I really can’t wait to get around to reading this one! I’m looking forward to it so much 😀

    1. Hi Olivia!
I know what you mean when you finish a good book you just want to read another by the same author.

Backman is a good writer and I am enjoying A Man Called Ove!

    1. Hi Danny!
I enjoy reading different authors from different countries and think this is a great little book that people can relate to.

So far I am enjoying the book….

Do come back and check out my review and book club discussion questions! There are some interesting themes that come up in the story line.

  3. This reminds me of The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. Elderly people are such great stories. Though, the 100-y-o-man never came across as grumpy to me. Your selection has an ornery, and likely cynical component, that I will be fun to read.

    1. Hi Lonna!
I haven’t read The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared but the title sounds intriguing!
Ove is stubborn but has a good heart. This book is surprisingly a great read so far…

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hi Melinda!
I am so glad that you enjoyed A Man Called Ove. I have started it and enjoying it immensely.

I see what you mean about the movie UP without the balloons. Ove does seem a bit like the man in that movie.

      Thanks for stopping by!
