Guiness World Records 2018 Book Review

Guiness World Records 2018: Book Review by Dinh.
5 out of 5 stars

Review:

I haven’t picked up the Guinness World Records book to read in a long time. My twelve year old son loves the trivia of new and amazing world records and he recently got the 2018 edition from the library to read. He started asking me “Did you know this….” and ” Did you know that…” so I ended up looking and reading the book.

Before long, I got completely pulled in. I am not surprised I got sucked in because I like that sort of thing. I like to watch the Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Contest in Coney Island on July 4th each year, and when in the UK, I like to watch the World’s Strongest Man Contest.

This informational book was amazing. I had forgotten how addicting it is to read about the wide range of topics that is covered in the book. I was in awe and also grossed out in some parts.

Here’s what I loved about the Guiness World Record 2018!

Great Layout:

The layout of the book was very helpful in navigating the book.

The contents page was user friendly. I liked that it is divided into categories so you can just go to the topics that you’re interested in reading first.

I went into the Arts and Media category first, followed by Recordmania. In the books section, I found out the highest annual for an author, the most expensive book illustration sold at auction, the largest book signing, the most expensive book and other fun facts.

In Recordmania, it was fun to read about the heaviest bicycle, largest Nerfgun, who had the largest collection of model cars, who had the most snow globes, fun food stats like the largest hamburger and largest dirt cake, and other interesting facts.

There was Rubik Cube facts to explore and balls of different materials and sizes to learn about. It was all amazing stuff!

Other categories include Earth, Animals, Superhumans, Superheroes, Adventures, Society, Sci-tech and Engineering, Transport and Sports.

For anyone who hasn’t read the Guinness World Record book before, the book is compiled like a book of infographics, lots of info and lots of pictures.

I liked that there were so many pictures so it was visually pleasing to read. The pictures got my attention first. I found that the images together with the stats or facts stayed in my mind longer.

Entertaining Read

What I enjoyed the most about the book was that it was an entertaining read, even though it has tons of information. I didn’t feel like I had to retain all the information I read so there wasn’t that feeling of information overload.

I also liked the sections in between the main categories too. There was the tallest, fastest, longest, heaviest, youngest, highest, highest earning, oldest, most expensive, and smallest that was presented as an infographic.

My Final Thoughts:

I loved the Guiness World Records 2018 book!

Fun, fun, fun, sums it up. It’s an entertaining read regardless of your age. The book contains some amazing world records facts.

The book has great pictures so you can enjoy the book by yourself or with your family. I certainly enjoyed sharing the book with my son!

You’ll definitely will enjoy this book if you like to explore amazing facts. I highly recommend reading the Guiness World Records book!

I will be picking up the Guiness World Records 2019 as a gift for my son  for Christmas!

  1. I remember how much the guys back in primary school used to love to read this! I love knowing random facts and things like that but this isn’t my kind of read. I tried to read one before but it just doesn’t work for me? I am so glad you find it fun, entertaining and informative though! It seems like the layout works out well for it. Great review x

    1. Hi Olivia,
The Guiness World Records book is like a magazine to me. You read it because it’s entertaining. It has some great facts and trivia and nice photos too. I like that it’s not a heavy read and you can pick up where ever you want and go to parts that interest you.
I have already got the Guiness World Records 2019 for my son for xmas. I also bought Ripley’s Believe It or Not 2019 too!

    1. Hi Cee!
The Guiness World Records books are great xmas gifts. I don’t know how much they used to cost but the 2019 edition is only about $20 on Amazon. Not too costly I think.

      Thanks for stopping by!
