  1. Here is the one thing i know about books, they held the secrets to the universe long before the internet was created, and they will hold the secrets to the universe long after the internet crashes.
They transcend time, and geography and transport a spirit to where ever it ever needs to be. They feel good to hold curled up with a blanket on a cold winter night as they do on a chunk of wood on a warm summer afternoon. They leave messages from hundreds of years ago to anyone that wants to listen now. Oh, and the really good ones have a smell unique to themselves.

That the one thing i know about books πŸ™‚ I love them!

    1. Hello Lori,
      Thanks for your comments!
I love your enthusiasm for books. I love them as well!
Lately I have found myself on the couch with a blanket and have read a few pages and then promptly fall asleep. Curling up with a blanket is nice, too nice and cozy but it induces me into a coma. Haha, that is what kids will do to you.

Thanks for stopping by and please drop by again!

  2. 99% of my reading is in bed at night before sleep :)… I find my best writing time is first thing in the morning – as in just letting it flow out and getting it down… then I find editing and fine tuning seems to work best for me early evening πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Steve,
Thanks for popping by at Arlene’s book club.

I find that reading in bed is a luxury and I would only do that at a time when I am not tired. Otherwise it would be like a horse tranquilizer!

A cup of coffee in the morning would also be the best time for me to write. The caffeine is just the thing I need to get me started for the day. I do get writer’s block though…. I struggle with words and how to express myself the way I think I should write…..Lol…I guess it should come with practice!

  3. I’m with Lee! I like to read in the toilet as well. If my partner would let me, I’d put a bookcase next to the toilet, but for some reason she thinks that’s disgusting…
Anyone have any recommendations for a bookcase that would suit the toilet room?

    1. Each to his own, I say David.
But word of warning- you better learn now to listen to your girlfriend wishes and not have a bookcase in the bathroom if you want a nice peaceful life. They say “a happy wife is a happy life” and that definitely begins with keeping your girlfriend happy!

I don’t like to sit on the toilet for a long amount of time to read. I would rather enjoy reading in the comfort of my own bed given the choice.

  5. Mine’s a cuppa wiv three sugars innit, thanks.

It’s ages since I read a book – not even sure if I can read, yet. It’s them word things, they keep me writing instead of reading. Ain’t that a shame?

I suppose I must be able to read or else you mad folks in Cyberworld wouldn’t able to read what I wrote. That’ll give ya something to work out in your coffee break, eh?

Oh, and is that cuppa ready yet?

    All the best, Andre

    1. Hi again – a quick afterthought – does anyone know where free ebooks can be downloaded? – or even free audio books that I could listen to while working.

Thanks again for the cuppa – it were ever so nice!

      Andre

      1. I do make a good cuppa; thanks for the compliment!

To answer your question, I think that the library offers some free ebooks to download. They also have audio books that you can borrow as well.
Check your local library as they will be able to give you the details.

        See you soon!

      2. Hi Andre, Twitter has lots of people offering free ebooks. Do a search for the word “ebooks” and it should throw up some people you can follow. Don’t forget to follow @arlenesbookclub !

    2. Hi Andre,
thanks for popping in and having a cuppa!
It’s so nice to have a friendly face at The Coffee Shop and having a good old chat.
Your quirky personality has made me smile today.

I am sure I’ll see you soon!

    1. Hi Tara,
I would like to read before bed as well but my reality is that I’m dead tired and would pass out if I lay down on a comfy bed to read!

      Thanks for swinging by!

    1. Ahh, free time! That sounds blissful. I would love to have more free time to read and relax.
I love to read in bed as well but I hardly ever do that because reading in bed is like a horse tranquilizer nowadays. I just drop off to sleep!

      Thanks for swinging by Sofia.

  6. Thank you for the brief description on the coffee shop and what their purpose is! I usually go to them to find peace and quiet and catch up on my reading as well! Thanks again πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Johnathan,
I like the uniqueness of the spelling of your name!
I would agree with you that you can get a bit of peace and quiet at the coffee shop. Ideal for a chat and some reading! Also I love the pastries that accompany the hot beverage!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  7. I love to read whenever I have the chance to. Usually it’s in my living room with a cup of hot beverage, not coffee as I’m not a coffee drinker. Sometimes I read in the bathroom too! πŸ™‚

    1. LOL, I guess it’s not just a guy thing reading in the bathroom!
I try to read when I can as well. It’s amazing that I even find time to!

Thanks for popping by and hope to see you soon!

  8. I am now drinking a cool drink, feeling some real tropical breeze and reading your post, sitting now and writing this, I have got to say that I love to read anytime of day! It doesn’t matter where; as long as I am getting new information on something that interest me and will develop my mind.
What book are you reading now? and what would you say is the best book you ever read?

    Jason.

    1. Hi Jason,
Thanks for popping by. It’s nice to meet another avid reader.
It would be nice to have the time of day where I can just read whenever I want. Having 3 kids limit the time when I can chose to read. I guess when I retire I will have the free time….long way to go yet!

I am currently reading John Sandford’s Gathering Prey now. I will be posting a review of it soon.
What book are you reading right now? You seem to be into “an improving book.”

I prefer to read novels but enjoy other forms of reading too. The best book I ever read? Huh, that’s a tough one. There are so many good books and I like them all for different reasons. For fantasy genre, one of my favorite book that I recently read is A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. It was so good that I couldn’t put it down. It’s right up my alley.

    2. Do excuse me asking – don’t the books get wet? Just wondering ‘coz I was thinking of getting one of them ebook thingies and not sure if it’ll blow me up!

  9. Coffee and book canΒ΄t be separate! Very relaxing, so relaxing that I can read almost everywhere.
But in the nature on some relaxing place are my favorite.

    1. Hi Johann!
I couldn’t agree with you more that some of the best places to read are in nature. Reading at the beach is so relaxing- I like the sea breeze blowing through my hair and the sounds of the crashing waves around. I haven’t done that for a while since I had kids!

  10. The coffee shop is the place for me! I like reading there because of the sounds and smells and mix of people. Plus coffee is an addiction of mine!

    1. Thanks for your comment Greg.
I see quite a few people reading or working on their laptops or ipads at the coffee shop.
It’s a nice place to hang to read or catch up for a chat.

      Thanks for popping by!

    2. Hi Greg – had to ask – can I have three sugars and a cuppa tea please? (LOL). Have to admit the smells in the coffee shops are wonderful so if ya find some mad geyzer sitting beside ya it’s probably just me – you’ll know from the tea with 3 sugars.

      1. Hey Andre,
I hope your not bothering Greg! He likes to work on laptop when he’s having a cuppa.
The mad hatters corner is over to the right… They are a lively bunch and you’ll be right at home there.
Don’t mind him Greg, he’s a regular and he won’t bite!

    1. I am from Devon and one of my favorite thing to do is have cream tea when I am home.
What is Devon Cream tea? You almost guessed it Arlene. It’s tea accompanied by scones, Devonshire or Cornish clotted cream with jam. It is simply delicious!

One of the best spots to have cream tea is Southern Cross Tea Rooms in Newton Poppleford if you are ever in the area. They make their scones fresh daily and they have a nice garden to enjoy while you have your cream tea!

      1. I’m off to Southern Cross Tea Rooms in Newton Poppleford for my hols this year. They might not be that happy about it, though, ‘coz I’m moving in with my suitcases and gonna try the – “everything on the menu , please, Oh and have ya gotta woof anywhere?” option if they’ve got one.

    2. I know all about Devon Cream Teas. I had one, or nearly had one, when I was in Devon a few years back.

There were two lovely freshly baked scones – nice and yummy. And there was a pot of jam and another with really nice whipped frothy cream – ooh! Cor I’m dribbling again.

I tripped over the dog! – Some rural cafe’s allow dogs in ‘coz we love ’em over here in the UK. He didn’t mind once I’d pointed to his new dindins on the floor. I had a friend for life and actually saw a Devon Cream Tea get eaten in under 30 seconds flat.

But I still haven’t ever tasted one yet. If I ever do I will have a go at eating it quicker than the dog did. That’ll get a few stares in the cafe. eh?

Hope it helps – maybe look up the images on Google and havva dribble like me.

      All the best, Andre

      1. You’re missing out on Devonshire Cream Tea!
Don’t be sharing with the dogs now… I treat you to one next time I am over the pond…actually I will be visiting Christmas 2016.

        See you soon!

  11. My other favorite places to read are on the Beautiful Beach in Aruba or on our favorite beach at the Jersey Shore where it is just sand, beach and beautiful waterβ˜€οΈ

  12. I actually grab a cup of coffee and go sit on the deck under the umbrella in summer to read. In winter I sit on my couch in the living room in front of our bay window to read and if it is snowing I get to enjoy the view too.

    1. Thank you Eugene.
I need some strong coffee to get me motivated as well. I go back and forth between coffee and tea depending on my mood.

    1. Hi Bina!

I love to read in bed too but don’t get to do that too often. It’s my favorite spot because it’s so comfy.
By the time I get into bed though, I am so tired that I just fall asleep!

      Thanks for dropping by πŸ™‚
