The Night Circus Review

“Watch Out!! The Circus Is Coming To Town!”

Curl up with this enchanting page turner.

This wonderful book was recommended to me at the end of last summer by my lovely niece Laura. Thank you Laura!

The artwork alone on the front cover of the paperwork edition is mesmerizing in itself. I will always choose the actual book over digital every time. I picked The Night Circus novel at Barnes and Noble,  and loved the feel and look of the book. I just love the interesting and mesmerizing front cover and this one will remain on my bookcase front and center!!

Okay, enough about me, so let’s get to the review.

There is a buzz going around that the circus might be coming to town! A circus that simply materialize at nightfall like magic, as though it has always been there even though the field it sits on now had been empty the day before.

It disappears the same way – there it is and then it isn’t! So you will wonder how do they do it, how can this happen?  The long lines to get into the circus seem to be forming already even though it is still daylight!

This circus is called Le Cirque des Rêves and it only opens at nightfall, like clockwork, every night, while it is in town. Oh, by the way, I could never forget the clock!! The clock holds a mighty place in this story!

The people stare at the clock that sits just inside the gates that no one can properly describe.  The black sign painted in white letters that hangs upon the gates, the one that reads:

“Opens at Nightfall

Closes at Dawn”

This is The Circus of Dreams. Now you may enter!!

You see, Le Cirque des Rêves moves from town to town, country to country captivating the audience in their new and exciting adventures within the circus.

You will be amazed at this unique venue which is full of breathtaking black and white striped canvas tents. Each tent is more enchanting, magical and mysterious than the others. Each tent holds mysteries and you sometimes feel like you want to be there forever but you move on to the next.

You will ride Celia’s Carousel, experience Marco’s Cloud Maze and The Labyrinth they both collaborated on.

As you will see as you enter this world of dreams, when you enter some of the tents you will wonder how you will get out as the door you entered in may disappear as the show inside the tent begins.

I will let you wonder about that dear reader as this book will entice you to keep turning the pages.

Underlying the theme of the story line is a challenge and a competition going on between two central characters, Celia and Marco. They initially do not know each other but know the other has been out there preparing for many years to meet and win this competition.

You will meet a cast of characters in this story and will be entranced at each of their stories. There is Prospero, Celia, The Man In The Gray Suit, Marco,Poppet and Widget, Herr Frederick Thiessen, Isobel, Bailey, Tsukiko and Chandresh Christophe Lefevre.

How will the competition end between Celia and Marco?  Who will win, will they survive and how will their lives be affected in the future?

The Night Circus Recommendation

I do not think you will ever forget or regret reading The Night Circus.

ErinMorgenstern has created a rare and original book. One like I have never before read. I felt like I was there experiencing the illusions as they were happening. This book is intoxicating all the way through.

Morgenstern has done an excellent job in tying the changing events all together as you keep moving along with the circus. You will be intrigued by the illusions, magic and enchantments.

Throughout this enticing story and cast of characters is also a love story and you will need to know the ending.

If you need a change from the usual “Who Done It” novel come along for the ride. You will be enchanted and mystified. This unique book is a gem. Thank you Erin Morgenstern, your imagination is beyond expectation!

So, Come One, Come All to Le Cirque des Rêves!!

  8. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced any book like this…

Maybe except reading Alice in Wonderland as a child… but in a way that was the kind of experience I gained from The Night Circus, like getting lost in a Wonderland for adults. So much vivid imagery and depth and emotional connections and heart breaks and joy…. I loved every bit of it! I really can’t say enough how much I loved this book.

Thanks for an enjoyable review, so happy to hear other’s love this book as much as I do!!
