Please join us in reading our pick of the month book The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan.

We will be reviewing The Valley of Amazement and our book club discussion questions for May 31st, 2016.

Well known author Amy Tan brings her reputation as master storyteller a book that deals with mother-daughter relationship.

This a story of two women whose lives are entwined and their search for their identity.

San Francisco Chronicle says ” Tan ditches her magic realist fugues and enters a brutal landscape of Shanghai courtesans, exploring it with new depths of tenderness and pain.”

I am looking forward to reading this compelling and emotional read.

  1. Hi Dinh, This book is on sale at The Book Depository for 50% off. Paperback, though. Just thought I’d share it. But, the cover you featured on the blog is more attractive in my opinion.

    1. Hi Lonna,
thanks for letting us know about the book sale. I checked it out and it was $6.46 for the paper version with a different book cover. I have not used them before and usually get books from bookstores, library or on Amazon.

Thanks for sharing and I hope our readers can use this great tip. 🙂

  2. Amy Tan is such a compelling writer. I really like how she’s departing from her roots and taking readers to this brutal world of courts and courtesans. I’ll try to participate, and if I do, it’ll be later in the month. But, I’ll follow the discussion regardless.

    1. Hi Lonna,
      Thanks for stopping by.

Amy Tan is a fantastic writer and I look forward to reading The Valley of Amazement. I have been a fan of hers since Joy Luck Club. I learn so much about about Chinese culture and the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Themes that always involve conflict and cultural identity is so compelling.
