Book Review by Dinh.
Review:
I am not a big romance reader in general and don’t go out of my way to find romance books to read. In recent years I have branched out of my comfort zone and made myself choose a few a year to read.
I mainly get disappointed with romance novels in general but sometimes I hit the jackpot with a good one!
Most romance novels that I have read I forget about it immediately after I read it. This was not the case with Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn!
This was my first book by this author and I am happy to report that I like her work! I will probably read another book of hers.
So should you read it? I think it was worth the read.
Here’s what I loved about it.
Story Line
Going in I thought this was going to be a regular romance novel: Girl meets boy and they start a romance.
Yes, it’s a romance but it has a twist!
This contemporary romance is about Meg, a calligrapher/ hand-lettering artist, and Reid, a Wall Street mathematician.
On one of Meg’s job, she puts the code M-I-S-T-A-K-E in the wedding program for Reid and his bride to be. A year later, the wedding falls through and Reid turns up to ask Meg about the message.
Meg has artist block and invites Reid to walk around NYC so she can get inspiration for a major contract that she is competing for. And so begins their romance.
Author’s Style
Firstly, I loved that the book was a nice easy read.
Secondly, the 303 pages of the book hooked me right at the beginning with “On Sunday I work in sans serif” and kept me turning the pages until the end.
Thirdly, I loved that it had a unique point of view! The story was told in the first person so we get to understand Meg’s unique perspective. She’s an artist that thinks in letters!
The subject matter of calligraphy, journal, design, fonts, sign painting and artists tools kept me interested throughout.
Moreover, what I loved about this book was that it was a slow boil romance and none of this ‘insta-love’ that I find too often in other books.
Clayborn does a good job in developing the characters and what makes them attracted each other. I loved that Meg tells terrible jokes that makes Reid laughs.

Characters
I liked that the characters in the book had real flaws.
They are realistic when there are flaws that we can relate to. For example, Meg had problems with her best friend Sibby and didn’t know how to solve the problem of them drifting apart.
Clayborn does a great job in developing Meg. Meg’s character grows on you and so does Reid.
Ending
What a great ending!
I had waited patiently for the big reveal and it surprised me what Reid was hiding from Meg. I didn’t see it coming!
All loose ends are tied up and we get to find out what the next step is for Meg and Reid in the epilogue.
My Final Thoughts
I loved reading Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn!
It was whimsical, charming and beautifully written book. The story line has a interesting twist with some unique characters that sets up for a great romance.
I recommend this fun, easy to read book!

I do like romance novels and read quite a few of them. They are definitely my comfort genre so I don’t necessarily need to have something unique about it to like it. But because this one has unique elements to it I might enjoy it even more than you do!
